EU passports and airport queues: what not to assume

Waiting in airport immigration lines helped motivate my own family citizenship research. I have watched passengers in another lane move much faster. That experience is not a promise of how any future journey will work.
Citizenship and airport processing are different questions
EU nationals can travel within the EU and associated Schengen countries with a valid passport or national identity card, subject to the applicable rules. Border or identity checks can still occur. Ireland has separate border arrangements. Your Europe explains the travel-document rules.
Do not assume an EU passport guarantees an empty lane or e-gate access. Check the airport's instructions for your passport, age and journey. Allow enough time for security and border formalities.
Keep the citizenship decision separate from a travel shortcut
I would not recommend a citizenship project solely to save time in an airport queue. Start with the family records, the route and your wider reasons for pursuing it.
